Solvents are an indispensable part of modern industrial processes. However, a significant portion of solvents used in production processes worldwide is lost or dispersed into the biosphere. Solvents, which are the source of approximately 35% of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), emit large amounts of vapor during industrial operations, causing adverse effects on the environment and public health. These emissions will be regulated by stricter legal standards in the near future.

In this context, solvent recovery processes are increasingly important to reduce the environmental damage caused by emitted solvent vapors and to lower the high costs of purchasing new solvents.

Ultrasonic Solvent Distillation Machine Sales

In addition to ultrasonic reactor cold fusion solvent distillation, we have extensive experience in distillation machine manufacturing.

General features of our produced machines;

 Designs with boiler volumes ranging from 150 liters to 3000 liters can be realized upon request.

 Boilers are made of SAE 304 stainless steel.

 Explosion risk analyses have been conducted by our mechanical engineers, and production complies with TMMOB (Chamber of Mechanical Engineers) "Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment" regulations.

 Electrical components such as motors, panels, and resistors are spark-proof; areas containing explosive products (petroleum, chemicals, natural gas) are EX-Proof (explosion-proof). Exproof insulation ensures safe production. All our machines' electrical systems are exproof protected.

 Safety is paramount in our machines, equipped with emergency siren systems, emergency stop buttons, timer-controlled on-off systems, pressure-resistant manhole covers, leakage current protection fuses, and safety valves.

 Equipment control is provided via a PLC-based control panel. The touchscreen interface allows simple operation of all controls. Components used are industrial-grade and suitable for the operating environment.

 Boiler filling can be automatic or manual. Machines with high platforms include ladder systems.

Definition of Solvent

A solvent is a liquid capable of dissolving various substances as a solution. More broadly, a solvent is a chemical separator that converts solids into solution (e.g., mineral acids that dissolve metals).
Solvents accompany us in many areas of daily life. They are commonly used in various industrial production processes and household applications. From a young age, we know to avoid these substances due to their toxicity: not swallowing them, limiting skin contact, keeping them away from eyes, and avoiding inhalation.
Most organic solvents used in both domestic and industrial applications are highly volatile (e.g., acetone with high solvent power used in paints, resins, and adhesives). This means they rapidly disperse into the environment even at room temperature. Therefore, access to these substances must comply with current technical requirements, and their storage and transport must meet specific standards .
When considering the value of solvents, flammability and physiological effects must be taken into account.---

Solvent Recovery Process: What Does It Mean? How Is It Performed?

Industrial solvent recovery can be performed in various ways, producing different results, including economic ones.
The most economically attractive goal is to use a solvent recovery plant to obtain a compound of purity and quality suitable for direct reuse in production. For this reason, Brofind® has developed not only all technologies required for recovering solvents in the gas phase but also technologies for distillation and purification.
This process can be carried out using molecular sieves (mainly when trace amounts of water need removal) or distillation columns for mixtures with higher chemical and physical complexity. There are simple distillation columns operating in batch or continuous modes. However, real distillation columns composed of several columns operating at different temperature and pressure ranges enable the distillation of compounds and azeotropes (an azeotropic mixture is composed of two or more liquids whose compositions do not change by simple distillation).
However, in more complex cases where the chemical and physical properties of solvents to be recovered make it impossible or uneconomical to separate components at the required purity, the mixture obtained from recovery can be used for less demanding activities still necessary within the company (e.g., machine cleaning).
Moreover, considering the high volatility of solvents, if they evaporate during production, they must be "captured" and recovered in the gas phase, enabling their reuse in production through special recycling technologies.

As a last resort, controlled incineration of solvents is always possible. Although technically feasible without environmental harm, it is not yet considered a suitable option.

How are solvents disposed of? How are chemical solvents recycled and recovered?

Technological advances have allowed replacing the most harmful and aggressive chemical compounds with less hazardous and more tolerable ones for the environment. However, regardless of the structure and hazard of the solvent used, a few basic rules must always be kept in mind:

  • Avoid disposing of solvents into the environment
  • Create as little pollution as possible
  • Dispose of waste solvents according to current regulations

An important point regarding the disposal of small amounts of chemical solvents: In Italy, waste management, including collection, temporary storage, transport, and disposal, is regulated by the April 3, 2006, Regulation No. 152 .
When disposing, it must be determined whether the solvent belongs to the "halogenated" or "non-halogenated" category. Disposal of halogenated solvents is more complex and costly.
Practically, long-lasting, clearly labeled plastic containers are used. Once filled, waste is temporarily stored in large (shatterproof) metal containers within the waste production facility. When a certain amount of waste is collected, it is processed by companies specialized in hazardous waste incineration.

In industrial and commercial sectors, used solvents are recycled for reuse. This is because, even in large quantities, recovering and recirculating solvents used is mandatory to save money. This also benefits the environment.

Polar and Nonpolar Solvents (Apolar Solvents)

Solvents are divided into polar solvents, such as dimethyl sulfoxide – CH3 2SO – with high dielectric constant, and nonpolar solvents like hydrocarbons with low dielectric constant. The most well-known polar solvent is water.

Solvents are used as media for many types of chemical reactions, such as paint components, printing inks, and adhesives. They are useful in metal degreasing, textile dry cleaning, chemical-technological processes, and separation techniques (extraction, distillation).
