Nano Materials - Background information: Nano materials are materials that are smaller than 100 nm. They are rapidly moving into the formulation of paints, inks, and coatings. Particles need to be mixed into liquid formulations. This is where most nanoparticles form agglomerates during wetting. Especially carbon nanotubes are very sticky, making it difficult to distribute in liquids such as water, ethanol, an oil, a polymer, or epoxy resin. Traditional processing devices, such as high-cut or rotor-stator mixers, high-pressure homogenizers, and colloid and grinders, are insufficient to separate nanoparticles into separate particles.
