Vanveys are second-class soil tillage implements. They are tools inserted into a plowed field after the plow has been plowed, specifically to prepare it for planting. Making the field surface more suitable for planting by breaking up clods created by the plow is called cultivating.

A three-linked, double-balanced wheel vanvey is a mounted tillage machine used to break up and tread the soil in fields that have been rested for a year after plowing. It is used to break up and tread the soil, breaking down weeds in vineyards, orchards, and fields, and to aerate the soil.

Purpose of Using a Vanvey

• To prepare the seedbed by sufficiently breaking up the soil.
• To kill weeds in fallow farming and to maintain soil moisture retention by preventing evaporation.
• To break up plant residue on the soil surface and to mix organic residue in the upper soil layer with the soil.
• To break up the crust and sometimes to partially compact the soil, creating a better tempering condition and accelerating germination.
